Wordle today finds a middle ground between these two extremes. Although there is usually enough information for players to make an informed prediction, there is still opportunity for contemplation and investigation. This area for exploration is what gives the game its distinctive tension. Players get more knowledge after each move, but they still don't have the whole picture; certain aspects of the solution may be obvious while others are still unclear. Players are forced to frequently change their viewpoint as a result. Occasionally, they may believe they are nearing the answer, but a fresh finding may reveal a plethora of other options. At other times, the problem may seem overwhelming, but all of a sudden, all becomes evident as a single additional letter appears. The game has a natural rhythm because of this fluctuation between assurance and uncertainty. Players are given time to consider what they have learnt rather than being compelled to behave continuously. Therefore, the feeling of discovery in Wordle comes from the methodical process of revealing a secret solution rather than from exploring other places. |
